With the cycling racing season now well underway, the mountainbikers in the club have been busy.  In the last round of the McConvey’s spring league (Sunday 1st March), young Curtis McKee finally got the win he has been looking for, finishing the series second overall in the under 8 category.  This is a fantastic start to the season for this young man and we congratulate his determination and performance – he will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

Last week then saw the first round of the Ulster XC championship, held on the fantastic course at Rostrevor.  The club fielded an unprecedented 10 riders in the various races.  Star of the show was Johnny McRoberts.  Johnny is new to racing this year and hot on the heels of a top 10 placing at the opening road race at Annaclone a couple of weeks ago, he demonstrated that he will be one to watch this season with a superb win in the S4 race. Josh Murray, Stuart Suckling and Barry Toland also performed well in this race with David Haire holding third place for most of the race, only to fall near the line and finish 6th overall – another name to watch for the future.

In the S3 race, David McKee pushed hard from the start and this race proved the event of the day as David and Noel Collins of Omagh fought for pole position for the entire race.  David unfortunately was also suffering mechanical issues and finished second – a position that he will not be content with going into the next round of the competition in Ballykelly at the end of March.
