The success of the growing mountain biking was evident this weekend at the first round of the Ulster Cyclocross Championships. As usual Davy "Our Hero" McKee was on the podium producing at outstanding performance to give elite S1 rider Johnny Reid a run for his money. Davy finished second beating some of the top mountain bikers in the country who race S1 and S2 (Davy is only s3). Next was Stuart Suckling in 11th, another great performance from him. Colin McKee (26th) was the next Marylander in shortly followed by Josh Murray (27th) a place behind. Then came the new Marylanders who were making their debuts in club colours. David Haire (29th), Barry Toland (31st) and Winston Johnson (32nd). Not bad for a club who focuses on "Road" cycling.

The Maryland also performed really well in the junior section. Young Curtis McKee finishing 5th in the under 8 and Cara suckling finishing 3rd in the under 8. I would like to add these two youngsters are both 6, so they would have been racing against kids 2 years older. Young Campbell (Chris Stewart) produced a cracking performance finishing 4th in the u12 category racing against three kids who were on cx bikes and he was on a full sus mountain bike.

Thanks to those who showed up to support us on Sunday. For anyone wishing to check out these mountain biking events the next round is on this Sunday in Lady Dixon park. The events run from 10am-3pm. Usually with the mountain bike support race off at 12ish.
