McCall Foundation Backs Ulster Squad

The David McCall Foundation, which was established in memory of one of Ireland's best known and most popular racing cyclists, has announced it's first major bursary of 2010. The Foundation will support the Cycling Ulster team in this year's Tour of the North stage race at Easter. Cycling Ulster's newly appointed Road manager Ryan Connor was delighted with the decision. The Ahoghill rider who is a three time winner of the TON and has raced at top international level said, "This is a great boost to our plans for the season. We had planned a long and varied schedule involving a number of the bigger races in the South plus a UCI world ranked Premier calendar event across the water. The budget simply wasn't there and just as I was about to trim our plans the David McCall Foundation throws us this lifeline. The Ulster team will be proud to race under Davy's name and I can ensure the Foundation that we will do our best to target some of the major awards in the 4-day race."

David's daughter Emma who is on the Foundation committee added, "The Tour of the North was one of dad's favourite races. Even when he stopped competing at international level he was a spectator every Easter at the Tour. I know the Ulster lads will do his name proud and they may be motivated even more racing under his name."
