IN THE 77 YEAR HISTORY OF MARYLAND WHEELERS, THE CLUB HAS ALWAYS HAD A PHENOMINAL AND UNEQUALED RECORD OF TIME-TRIAL AND TRACK RACING CHAMPION'S, OVER RECENT YEARS WE'VE PRODUCED GREAT ACHIEVERS SUCH AS HEATHER WILSON, MARK GREER, SIMON THOMPSON, DAVY MCCALL AND MULTI  DISTANCE IRISH CHAMPION SCOTT HAMILTON.

BACK IN THE 40'S AND 50'S ALBERT EWART, BILLY STEWART, MAURICE DONALDSON AND THE ONE AND ONLY TOMMY GIVAN WERE ALL GREAT CHAMPIONS OF THAT ERA.

THIS TAKES ME ON TO GUY CRAWFORD,
THE CLUBS BEST ALL ROUNDER TROPHY IS NAMED AFTER GUY CRAWFORD, SOMEONE ONLY OUR LONG TIME CLUB MEMBER BILL CAMPBELL IS FAMILIAR WITH.

LATE LAST YEAR I WAS CONTACTED BY CLAIRE CRAWFORD, SHE IS THE DAUGHTER OF GUY's BROTHER, THE LATE ROBIN CRAWFORD.WHEN HE PAST AWAY, SHE DISCOVERED ONLY THEN THAT HER FATHER HAD A BROTHER SHE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT UNTIL SHE FOUND IN HER DADS BELONGINGS A SMALL BOX CONTAINING MEDALS, PHOTOS AND A CERTIFICATE AWARDED TO HER UNCLE BY MARYLAND WHEELERS BETWEEN 1944 AND 1947.

GUY CRAWFORD WAS BORN ON THE 7TH MAY 1926 AND DIED 19TH JUNE 1948 AGED 22.
HAVING THE ARCHIVE MATERIAL OF OUR CLUB I WAS ABLE TO FIND OUT SOMETHING ABOUT HIM, HE JOINED MARYLAND IN 1944 AND HIS FIRST RECORDED TIME-TRIAL A 25 ON THE ANTRIM ROAD WHERE HE RECORDED A TIME OF 1 05 54.
LATER THAT YEAR AT A 10 MILE T.T. BILL CAMPBELL RECORDED AN AMAZING TIME FOR THAT PERIOD OF 23 59, GUY CRAWFORD CAME 2ND WITH A 25 49.

OTHER NOTABLE EVENTS SAW GUY COMING 2ND TO TOMMY GIVAN AND ALSO OF HIM BEATING BILLY STEWART IN A 25 IN AUGUST 1945 TO WIN THE SMYTH CUP, A TROPHY I'M PROUD TO HAS MY NAME ON IT!

THE CLUB MINUTES BOOK OF 5 JULY 1948 RECORDS THE PASSING OF YOUNG GUY BUT NOTHING ELSE.
